Free Financial Education and Counseling Now Available to West Valley Residents Free financial counseling is now available to residents who live, work or worship in the West Valley, when they take a few minutes to join Credit Union West, a non-profit financial organization serving 30,000 members in west Maricopa County. This complimentary financial counseling is provided under a new partnership between the credit union and Accel Members Financial Management, a nonprofit financial education organization. The Accel program provides unbiased information and assistance to help members find solutions to achieve their financial goals. The program assists with personal and family budgeting; credit report reviews; money management; debt repayment; and avoiding bankruptcy, foreclosure and repossession. Credit union members can download free budget software from the home page at www.cuwest.org. “As a benefit to our members, we are providing free access to money management and financial education services,” said Steve Becker, President and CEO of Credit Union West. “With personal credit card debt carried by the average American reaching more than $8,500 today, Credit Union West is committed to providing valuable resources to help overcome credit problems.” Accel counselors can negotiate with creditors to reduce payments, interest charges and fees as credit union members work toward paying off their debts. The financial management program also offers free workshops covering topics such as buying a home, surviving a job loss and creating a savings plan. “We strive to provide our members with services to meet all aspects of their financial needs,” said Becker. “The Accel program is just one of many membership benefits.”
